Kirstine Hansen

Redress Design Award 2014/15 Finalist

Bio

Since participating in the Redress Design Award 2014/15, Kirstine Hansen launched sustainable streetwear label, WANTED?NEEDED in 2016. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the brand works with unbleached and un-dyed 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, to create durable, comfortable and stylish styles for the men and women. All of the brand’s products are locally made - from designing to sewing and printing and they aim to challenge trend led consumption habits and collaborate with local artists on print designs. Kirstine graduated with a BA in Sustainable Fashion from Copenhagen School of Design and Technology (KEA), and she has previously interned for renowned sustainable fashion designer, Christopher Raeburn.

Fashion is both a fun and necessary industry that brings joy and personality to a lot of people. However, the production of fashion has exploded rapidly and many people are not aware of the effects that our everyday life and fashion consumption has on millions of people, animals and on the environment. I want to be a sustainable fashion designer to inspire people to live a more conscious life without compromise. For me, this means using our resources in the best way possible and not compromising the future generation’s ability to meet their needs. - Kirstine Hansen

redress Design Award collection

For her Redress Design Award (formerly the EcoChic Design Award)2014/15 collection, Kirstine explored the ancient Chinese symbol of Yin and Yang and slow-fashion. Kirstine combined the up-cycling and reconstruction sustainable design techniques on her textile waste source of secondhand knitwear, onto which she applied vintage doilies. The result was a collection of contrasting lights and dark in various shapes and silhouettes.
