REDRESS DESIGN AWARD 2017 ALUMNI PRIZE WINNER & REDRESS DESIGN AWARD 2015/16 2ND PRIZE WINNER

Bio

After winning Redress Design Award 2015/16 Mentorship with Orsola De Castro, Cora Bellotto launched her namesake sustainable womenswear fashion label, Cora Bellotto, in 2017. The brand has a preference for using natural fibres and organic fabrics, and when it is not possible to use 100% certified fabrics, zero-waste sustainable fashion design techniques are applied to minimise environmental impacts. In addition, within the brand’s main collection, a small capsule of unique pieces is dedicated to the up-cycling of vintage fabrics.

Cora was awarded the Redress Design Award 2017 Alumni Prize, winning a tailored business mentorship with independent retailer kapok, with her collection stocked in store. She was also recognised as a Vogue Talent in 2018, after showing her collection during Milan Fashion Week at Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia. Cora has a BA in Fashion & Textile Design from Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA), and a MA in Fashion Design from Domus Academy.

As a designer, I feel some kind of responsibility for what I do, like I am designing my ideal future world. I love it when the creativity comes from the constraints of something already in existence or damaged. - Cora Bellotto

redress Design Award collection

For her Redress Design Award 2015/16 (formerly the EcoChic Design Award) collection, named "Love Endings", Cora was inspired by items that remain after heartbreaks and their potential to be part of new love stories through being given a new life. She combined up-cycling and reconstruction design techniques to secondhand wedding dresses, production offcuts and bed sheets, sourced from her own collection and her friends and family.
