Redress Design Award 2018 Semi-FINALIST

Bio

Arti Joshi was a semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2018 and holds a BA in Fashion and Textiles from the University of Portsmouth, UK. Arti previously worked as a freelance artist creating bespoke textile products.

I aim to facilitate a shift in the public conscience towards ‘slow fashion’ and change attitudes around wasteful fast fashion. It is important to me to push the message that style does not need to come at a cost to the environment and that thoughtfully designed sustainable fashion also boasts longevity, originality, craftsmanship and an elevated attention-to-detail that mass-produced fast fashion lacks. - Arti Joshi

redress Design Award Collection

Arti’s Redress Design Award submission is inspired by the Freudian notion that we inhibit our primal urges in order to belong in society, yet cannot truly escape these desires in our dreams. Through the up-cycling and reconstruction of a variety of textiles including discarded bed linens and industry remnant textiles, she celebrates the contradictions of the human mind, creating a unisex collection featuring her own illustrations.
