Redress Design Award 2018 Semi-FINALIST

Bio

Marleen Afanasjev was a semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2018 and studied Fashion Design at the Estonian Academy of Arts, Estonia.

I adore secondhand shops and the process of remaking clothes with a million different possibilities, which for me is much more appealing than simply buying from a fabric shop. Through this process, I have discovered a love for fabric printing and weaving and I put my soul into every piece in order to bring it back to life. - Marleen Afanasjev

Remaking is part of Marleen’s DNA, with her grandfather's secondhand clothing business and her family’s tradition of making their own clothes has a significant influence on her path into sustainable fashion design. For her Redress Design Award submission she up-cycles end-of-rolls and secondhand textiles, including bed linens, weaving new fabrics to create feminine silhouettes.
