Fiona Carroll

Redress Design Award 2020 Semi-FINALIST

Bio

Fiona Carroll is a semi-finalist of the Redress Design Award 2020. She holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Design from the National College of Art and Design, Ireland.

“Sustainability is a necessity rather than a trend or a buzzword - without sustainability, fashion is selfish. I feel a struggle between my creative ideals and moral beliefs: how can I see the destruction caused by the industry and still want to create more clothes? My practice is therefore a constant effort to align these conflicting opinions through creating beauty from discarded textiles ”. - Fiona Carroll

redress Design Award Collection

For her Redress Design Award collection, Fashion Roadkill, Fiona was inspired by objects that have been discarded, lost, forgotten - from the abandoned, trampled items she comes across in her daily life to the personal effects left behind by ancestors. She combines her textile waste sources of secondhand blankets, wedding dresses and leftover pieces of fabric from old projects, playing with texture and embellishments as a way of introducing interest and colour to negate the need for dyes.
