Terms and Conditions

  1. Applicants confirm that they fully satisfy all of the following entry requirements:

    • Have a valid ID/passport/visa/residence permit at the time of application

    • Are aged 18 years old or above at the time of application closing date (16 March 2023)

    • Have less than four years’ full time, part time or freelance professional fashion design experience

  2. Applicants confirm that they are not an employee of Redress, or an immediate family member of someone who works for Redress, an agent, judge or advisor for the competition at the time of application.

  3. Applicants agree to meet all deadlines and requirements as specified by Redress, and understand that late or invalid submissions will not be accepted.

  4. Applicants understand that they can be disqualified by Redress at any time for failing to meet the deadlines, criteria, quality and/or entry requirements or for any other reason as determined by Redress and at Redress’ final discretion.

  5. Applicants confirm that all works submitted are original and will be created entirely by themselves. Applicants also confirm that none of their designs have been seen in public including on all forms of social media. Applicants understand that Redress assumes no liability for the work they have submitted, accusations of plagiarism, copyright issues, or any intellectual property rights issues related to the entries and work submitted by any third party. The applicants take sole responsibility and shall fully indemnify Redress for any loss and/or damages incurred as a result of any such claims. Applicants understand that if they do not meet these requirements, their admission to the competition will be terminated and any winning titles will be revoked.

  6. Applicants acknowledge that all decisions made by the judging panel and Redress are final. Applicants acknowledge that Redress’ employees and the judges will not enter into any disputes or discussions with applicants on any matter relating to the judging process.

  7. Applicants understand and agree that Redress is free to use all of their works, photos, and interviews submitted by the applicants associated with their Redress Design Award collections for promotion, marketing, and for display purposes without any prior consent from the applicants.

  8. Applicants understand that if they are under investigation, have been charged, or have committed a criminal offence of any kind anywhere at any stage before or during the Redress Design Award 2023 competition, that they will be disqualified.

  9. Applicants understand that Redress reserves the right to limit, refuse, or withdraw any applicant at any stage of the competition if they are found to have violated any of the terms and conditions of entry listed herein.

  10. Applicants understand that Redress will not assume any liability for any injury, death and/or loss suffered during the competition, including during their visit to Hong Kong or during the transit from their country of origin to Hong Kong.

  11. Applicants understand that Redress will assume no liability for loss and/or damage of any kind relating to any employment or other contracts. Any conflicts arising from their commitment to the Redress Design Award 2023 and Redress are solely the responsibility of the applicant.

  12. Applicants understand that Redress shall keep all personal information about the applicant confidential, unless with prior agreement from the applicant, and that their personal contact details will be used solely for the purposes of the Redress Design Award 2023 and Redress, unless otherwise agreed in advance with the applicant.

  13. Applicants understand that Redress’ representatives may undertake media interviews and express their own views of the applicant and their work during and after the Grand Final of the competition.

  14. Applicants understand that Redress is committed to the elimination of all forms of discrimination to ensure that no applicant receives less favourable treatment because of age, colour, disability, gender, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, nationality, national or ethnic origin, politics, race, religion or belief.

  15. Applicants understand that Redress reserves the right to change or cancel the scheduled date(s).

  16. Applicants understand that Redress reserves the right to change the prize(s) without prior notice.

  17. Applicants understand that Redress may accept and/or reject any application at its sole discretion.

  18. Applicants understand that Redress reserves the right to add and change the rules of the competition unilaterally and the applicants shall observe and abide by these rules at all times.

  19. Applicants understand that if they are found to be in breach of the Terms and Conditions, they are responsible for indemnifying Redress and its affiliates including but not exclusive to sponsors, judges, ambassadors, advisors and supporting organisations for any loss and/or damage, including legal costs incurred by Redress as a result of such breach.

  20. Applicants declare that all of their details provided for any time during the competition cycle are true and correct.

  21. Finalists understand that they will always own the copyright of both the designs and the finished garments of their five-outfit competition collection. They understand that Redress cannot sell the designs and/or the finished garments. As such, Redress will assume no liability for plagiarism, copyright issues, or any intellectual property rights issues of the finalists’ submitted work, includinng but not limited to their designs and finished garments. They understand that Redress will assume no liability for accusations of plagiarism, copyright issues, or any intellectual property rights issues related to the entries and work submitted by any third party. The finalist takes sole responsibility and they shall fully indemnify Redress for any loss or damages as a result of such claims. The finalist understands that in this situation their admission to the competition shall be terminated and any winning titles will be revoked.

  22. Finalists agree that they are available to come to Hong Kong in late August and/or early September 2023 for a period of no less than 7 days (exact dates and details TBC, pending the global Covid-19 pandemic situation) and that they hold a valid travel document. All finalists understand that Redress will be responsible for the finalists’ travel and accommodation costs including: visa (if required) to Hong Kong from the region where the finalist applied from; airport transfer in Hong Kong; accommodation on a room-share basis; three pre-arranged meals per day; and travel between competition and event venues whilst in Hong Kong.

  23. Finalists understand that if they are required to apply for a visa to enter Hong Kong, and that they will be responsible for their own application, with the assistance of Redress. Finalists understand that Redress does not guarantee a successful visa application, and in the event of refusal to enter Hong Kong, that their collection will remain to be shown during the Grand Final Fashion Presentation without the attendance of the applicant.

  24. Finalists understand that all travel bookings will be made by Redress, who reserve the right to choose the finalists’ travel options, including the choice of airline carrier and flight routes.

  25. Finalists understand that Redress will not cover their personal travel or medical insurance or any costs related to on-going or new medical costs during the competition or during their visit to Hong Kong. Finalists must prove in advance of their trip that they are in possession of adequate and valid travel medical insurance for the duration of their visit to Hong Kong. All personal travel expenses shall be borne by the finalist.

  26. Finalists confirm that they will comply and observe the directions given by Redress and will attend all events, workshops, challenges and visits arranged by Redress in Hong Kong and potentially one other Asian city (TBC) including but not limited to pre-judging sessions, fashion show rehearsal, design challenges, video filming sessions, press interviews, photo sessions with local and international media representatives, online media interviews, workshops, seminars, the Grand Final Fashion Presentation, the after party and other social engagements.

  27. Finalists agree to be filmed and interviewed during their participation in the Redress Design Award activities throughout the duration of their stay during the Grand Final Week in Hong Kong. Additionally, finalists agree to take part in filming during the making of their collection in the finalists’ home city if requested by Redress.

  28. Finalists understand that Redress determines and has final say on all the creative input for the presentation of the finalists’ collection through the fashion shoot, Grand Final, and exhibitions including styling, makeup, hair, models, music, photography and filming.

  29. Finalists understand that if they win a prize(s), including but not limited to the first prize and runner up prize, that they must observe and comply with the conditions and schedules in relation to the prizes as set out in the prize page. Finalists agree that these schedules are possible for them to adhere to should they win.

  30. Finalists understand that Redress owns the copyright of all photos and videos taken of the finalists and their collection during the competition and Redress is entitled, without limitation, to use and reproduce these materials for purposes including for promotion, marketing, obtaining sponsorship and competition organisation indefinitely. Finalists understand that no copyright fees shall be paid to them at any stage.

  31. Finalists understand that Redress has the rights to retain and use two physical outfits and the digital outfit of their competition collection for appropriate educational and promotional use after the competition, including but not limited to exhibitions, fashion shoots, educational events and general marketing. Redress will select the two physical outfits to keep for these aforementioned purposes. Finalists understand that they will be credited for the design and creation of such outfits if and when their outfits are displayed after the competition’s completion.

  32. Finalists understand that Redress will not be held responsible for any damages or loss to their competition outfits suffered or incurred during and after the competition.

  33. Finalists and applicants understand that the Chinese version of the terms and conditions of entry is for reference only. In the case of any discrepancies, the English version shall prevail over the Chinese version.
