Belle Benyasarn

redress Design Award 2015/16 Finalist

Bio

Belle Benyasarn was a finalist of the Redress Design Award 2015/16. She has a Master’s Degree in Textiles from the Royal College of Art in the UK, and a Design and Architecture Degree from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Previously Belle has interned for Faustine Steinmetz, Nishiyama Silk and Tamiya Raden, and currently works as a textile artist and designer at her namesake woven textiles design studio.

We typically learn so much about designing and making, but we rarely think about the impacts we cause through our production and about what happens after we have sold our designs. I want to be part of the new generation of designers who raise the standards in the fashion industry. - Belle Benyasarn

redress Design Award collection

For her collection, Belle was inspired by sculptural volumes in architecture and by the delicate surfaces of natural minerals. She up-cycled surplus textiles and leather, sourced from factories in Thailand, and turned them into ‘new’ fabrics through hand-weaving.
