The public has spoken! After impressing the global public and defeating his 31 competitors, Jann Christian Bugcaras has won  the Redress Design Award 2020 People’s Choice! A record breaking 7,000 votes were cast across two weeks, with the public selecting their favourite designer based on sketches and a written statement.

Jann’s Redress Design Award collection, Adam’s Dominion, draws inspiration from the responsibility God has bestowed upon people after creation and the mistakes we have made. He reflects on his own fashion journey, and creates his designs using reconstruction and up-cycling techniques on his personal wardrobe, utilising cut-and-sew waste, damaged textiles and unsold clothing waste. His versatile designs can be styled in countless interchangeable ways, encouraging consumers to make the most of what they have.

“I believe that it is our responsibility as humans to take care of this world, but as days go by everything seems to be getting worse. Being a sustainable fashion designer for me is a step in the right direction in lessening the negative impact of this industry on the world by turning waste into wearable art.”

As the People’s Choice 2020 Winner, Jann takes home a JUKI overlock sewing machine, and a copy of the Bloomsbury title, The Dangers of Fashion – Towards Ethical and Sustainable Solutions by Sara B. Marcketti and Elena E. Karpova.
