Following thousands of votes cast over four-week period from across the globe the public has spoken! The Redress Design Award 2019 People’s Choice Winner is Israel designer, Moriah Ardila! Moriah’s unisex collection ‘Home’ draws inspiration from outdoor living in non-urbanised areas of the world where people are more attuned to nature and its connection to us. Her use of damaged camping equipment, such as sleeping bags and tents form the materials of her designs wowed the public. Tapping into this unique waste source - a first for the competition - Moriah up-cycles materials into modern clothing items that retain parts of their original functionality. She believes sustainability can be fashionable and wearable at the same time.

Moriah shared “Sustainable fashion to me means giving textiles that were not necessary made to be worn a second chance in order to decrease the volume of waste that we generate. I’m convinced that through sustainable fashion we can make a significant and urgent change in mentality worldwide.”

Along with the accolade of People’s Choice, Moriah wins a JUKI overlock sewing machine and a copy of Bloomsbury’s ‘Sustainability and Social Change in Fashion’ written by Leslie Davis Burns.
