Educating the future of fashion
At Redress we believe education is fundamental to the sustainable development of the fashion industry, and in ensuring through our work that the next generation of the industry are equipped to play a part in the critical shift towards a circular economy. So far in the Redress Design Award 2019 cycle, we have conducted over 20 talks around the world, while over 4,500 visited our LEARN platform to explore the educational content around circular design strategies – a record in the programme’s history.
We also organised two fashion academies in partnership with HKDI Fashion Archive in Hong Kong and Sheffield Institute of Arts at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK offering students, emerging designers & educators opportunities to connect with experts from the sustainable fashion industry and learn about sustainable design and new innovations. Participants also got hands on with a reconstruction workshop (in Hong Kong led by alumni, Janko Lam) that turned post-consumer jeans into contemporary kimonos, embellished with surplus fabrics provided by competition sponsor Naia™.
Fashion students and professionals can explore our expanding LEARN platform here (available in English, simplified and traditional Chinese, and French), and educators can register for our Educators Pack here (also in four languages). A new guide on longevity will be launched soon – watch this space!
